Forwarded from Anthony (reply to Mark L.)
It's hard to take Mark Lause seriously when he starts off by calling a post
bullshit.
It's harder to take him seriously when he can not marshal a single
historical fact to support his
position. Apparently he never reads anything anyone on this list writes
completely.
In the post that he responded to above I wrote that the unity of social
clasess in the United States began to unravel after the War of 1812. I also
wrote that I would address that period of history in my next posts. His
only substantial response, after a few paragraphs
of hysteria, was ...
"There's vast amounts of evidence against this asserted hegemony about
western expansion, not the
least of which was the national blowup over the War with Mexico that
shattered the political party system of the day...and the sectional
conflict itself. Since his entirely original hallucination of an oddly
monolithic society makes the Civil War difficult to explain... "
The Mexican-American war was a key element in the break-up of the unity of
classes that existed until
after the war of 1812. Like I said. But the only way anyone could see this
fact as contradictory to my
post, is if they did not read it carefully and seriously.
Mark's problems have nothing to do with my ideas about history. Maybe he
needs new reading glasses. Maybe he needs something else.
However, if he wants to discuss with me, I suggest, in the most polite way
I can given his truly BULLSHIT performance to date - that he write
something substantive supporting his own view of history, rather than
simply taking potshots, and bad potshots, at my views.
All the best, Anthony
