Re: Fwd: Letter to Bill Weinberg
Weinberg's been heading in this direction for some time. I had a lengthy
exchange with him and his flunky, David Bloom, in May, after his newsletter
favorably cited an obvious piece of postwar disinformation in which an
Iraqi "physician" claimed that Saddam had somehow contrived the deaths of
half a million children during the sanctions period as a propaganda maneuver.
(The story was so transparently false that it dropped off the radar screen
instantly and even apologists for the war do not now mention it.) Weinberg,
however, swallowed the tale whole because it allowed him to say "The Left"
refuses to acknowledge "the truth" when it is ideologically inconvenient.
I cited the overwhelming demographic and mainstream evidence for the Iraqi
genocide; Weinberg refused to retract. Because it was ideologically
inconvenient, I suppose.

This is very interesting, Louis, thank you for bringing it to my
attention. I note that in the article from OpenDemocracy, Ann Clwyd does
not come across by any means as having a postion of "all-out support" for
the war. On the contrary, she expresses grave misgivings. Perhaps her
position has changed.
Yeah, Bill, her position did change.
