400 dead in Iraq
A milestone was passed yesterday in Iraq - the 400th "coalition" soldier has
now died. The media, doing the implicit if not explicit bidding of the Bush
administration, continues to emphasize the figure 100, as in "106 [American
- this word often omitted] soldiers have now been killed by hostile fire in
Iraq since President Bush declared major combat operations over on May 1."
But the REAL figure is FOUR TIMES HIGHER, and should be emphasized AT ALL
TIMES by antiwar fighters. As I note on my blog this morning, numbers DO
matter. Would the outcry against the spending in Iraq be nearly as great if
Bush had asked for $22 billion? No.
