Re: Reporters without borders is a CIA front group

If you've read Manufacturing Consent you should get to know Herbert
Schiller?s work. He presents substantial, materialist analyses of
capitalist media and bourgeois culture from an organic (Gramscian
praxis) position. His last book was ?Living in the Number One Country:
Reflections from a Critic of American Empire.?

Amazon.com?s Book Description provides an apt introduction that leads to
a deeper analysis of the material of this thread (pulled from the
initial discussion of the CPJ, the RSF, Cuba and press freedom):

In this critique of America's ever-expanding communications sector,
Herbert I. Schiller shows how the industry that supports today's booming
economy is also a tool of capitalist exploitation. Schiller reveals how
the government has helped corporations sell information technology
throughout the world through pronouncements about the "free flow of
information" and how, in return, information corporations have supported
the government's imperial ventures. Schiller indicts those in his own
field who have collaborated with government and corporate officials to
distort social reality in order to facilitate rule by the privileged
classes, both at home and abroad.

In what I deem a tengential issue, I --as I think most of us on this
list--would happily entertain the idea that the imperialist spooks would
do whatever they could to infiltrate and manipulate organs of mass media
and associated organizations. They're on record as doing so. Although
they're also adept at concealment, occasions of heavyhandedness have
tipped their hand so their hand in such matters has been revealed. On
the other hand, there exist fairly devout liberals who abhor such
Machiavellian machinations yet cleave close to the capitalist cause
tricked out in the polite attire of liberal rights in the system --an
order that harbors the heights of hypocrisy when it comes to that very
same creed. If we were not of an urgent purpose, we would pity their
delusions, these self-annointed defenders of freedom as-it-exists in the
system of oppression called capitalism.

See the last couple lines from Pt.II of the CM.
