RE: "India has no reason to be grateful to Mother Teresa," Sanal Edamaruku of the Indian Rationalist Association
Beautifully argued. The likes of Mother Teresa, arguing "the poor will
always be amongst us" and that she had no concern with ameliorating poverty
or the causes of poverty, but rather giving "spiritual comfort" (read
converting) the poor and sick, is no different than the notion among some
fundamentalist Hindus who argued that "absolute obedience to--and never
questioning--one's 'caste duties', is necessary for moving up to the next
'higher caste level' the next time around." It means acccepting, never
questioning and never struggling against the barbaric status quo and the
ugly systems inexorably bringing it about and reinforcing it.
