Eyewitness accounts from Bolivia

We are in contact with a number of activists in
Bolivia.

They told us the demonstration yesterday in La Paz had
about 250,000 people. It is estimated that about
1-Million marched throughout the country.

The main leaders of the movement, the tradeunionist
Quispe and Movement Towards Socialism (MAS) leader Evo
Morales rejected the dialogue with Goni and the
mediation from Argentinean President Kirchner and
Ignacio Da Silva Lula.

The offer from Lula and Kirchner, according to our
sources, came too late in the process. Once Goni said
he was going to present the resignation to Congress,
the mass movement immediately demanded he must go.

There are presently heated discussions in assemblies
around the country as to whether let the new
government to operate or to launch a new offensive
against it. There are demands that the new President
abandon the demands for austerity.

Miners, members of the COB and peasants are
maintaining the blockade of roads and highways. There
are thousands of armed activists in the capital, La
Paz, and Oruro and Potosi.

There are massive funerals for those killed during the
more than a week battles on the streets. Some Army
generals are demanding the arrest of several police
officers involved in the shootings with Army troops.

More to follow.
