RE: Corn, overproduction, alcoholism, obesity (a must

Tom et alia: Other places have their greasy specialities in the fast
food department. Restaurants in Chile serve a number of meaty items "al
pobre": topped with a glistening heap of suateed onions, a slickly
shining fried egg, and a side of french fried potatoes. The appellation
"al pobre" says it --as far as that dish goes, i.e., in the fashion of,
who it's for-- but also hints at the fast food phenom in the leading
capitalist countries. It is not the svelt wealthy who keep Micky Dee's
in bidnez. Those burgers and tacos are only a buck and a bit. Harried
working parents easily succumb to the time saving seductions of a quick
meal for the kids (no dishes, too!), especially when the kids have been
polysaturated with the cloying commercials aimed directly at them by the
cathode toob. And chubbiness has even become aesthetically adorable via
the projected personification of TeleTubbies.

But the devastating failure for anyone who has a global
perspective--inherent to the weltanschauung of a Marxist--is that
article wholey overlooked the blythely irresponsible separation of the
surpluses of the bountiful United States from the dire needs of many of
the world's miserable millions. Bourgeois borders put any such
consideration beyond the pale of polite politics: "Not my table."
