Overall, I agree with all that Walter says about the Recall.    And...
nobody has been calling the Green Party a spoiler in that event.     But
that is not the only consideration.      The Greens can not be considered a
spoiler, yet still be righfully considered to have the wrong attitude
towards dealing with what most consider to be an overall assault on
Democratic Rights in the US.    In California, they stated that it was
essentially irrelvant that the national and state GOP was behind the whole
process, and put a big happy face on the whole event as being
an'opportunity', when in fact it was no such thing.

Similarly, the Texas Greens have pretty much ignored the whole GOP
Congressional District Restructuring shenanigans.     Here, they aslo seem
to have this distant and wrong attitude that this is an issue totally
irrelevant to them.    The public is going to remember these things, and the
chorus of accusations that the Greens will be spoilers in 2004 will be even
more shrill than they were in 2000.    Not an advance in the goal of
fracturing the Two Party System.

However, as all these things may be.... the real issue for socialists is
about whether they should be feeding THEMSELVES into this flawed and
opportunistic electorialsim of The Greens.      Some people want to
traansfer their  experience of Trotskyist entryism of the past into the
'labor' parties based on the unions, into a new Trotskyist entryism into
Green parties!    Trotsky himself is probably rolling over in his grave now
to see the paltry excuses for why this should be done.

Unlike the 2000 US Presidential election, no one can
or is claiming that the Green Party was a spoiler in
the California election campaign. After all, the Green
candidate's 3% vote was not the margin by which the
Democratic Party lost the election. No one has said
a word to suggest that the Greens were spoilers in
California.
