RE: NYTimes.com Article: Bush Initiative on Cuba Looks Beyond Cas tro Era
Not as bad as the headline sounds. As the quoted second paragraph indicates,
part of the new "steps" is the intention to actually observe the existing
agreement on legal emigration of Cubans to the United States. This will ease
the migratory pressure on Cuba that ignoring the agreement helped to create
earlier this year.
David McDonald
Response: All you need to know is that it comes from Bush to know that it
will be worse than the headline suggests. In addition to initiating a whole
new set of covert operations designed to destabilize and destroy the Cuban
social formation, returning Cuba to what it once was--a rather large
whorehouse and casino--this is about securing political support from those
fascist scum in Miami who dare to call themselves Cubans for 2004,
preventing travel to Cuba by those who go may be able to see and document
the lies being told by the rightists--and by some in nominally "left" sects
and cults--about the realities of Cuba, diversion of attention from Iraq,
laying more groundwork for full-blown fascism in the U.S. and sending a
signal to other nations that they can expect to be destablized and
overthrown if they do not stand 100% behind the predatory imperialist
policies and machinations of the U.S.
