Re: Henwood: Collapse in Cancun
Convinces me more than ever that Hug Dimwood is lobbying to become the
chairmana of the CEA for the next progressive Democrat. What a moron.
As if the trade barriers don't already exist. As if they aren't part and
parcel of advanced capitalism's mechanisms of expropriation.
Here he takes a good point-- that the US is not at all opposed to the
failure of the WTO in order to conclude separate agreements that preserve
and extend its "advantages" and then converts that into a "questioning" of
the developing countries "attempts" to "raise trade barriers."
So instead of looking at the predicament of capital as a whole, and the
breakdown of the "abstract liberalizaton" in the face of the concrete
manipulation of trade to serve big capital, we get an abstraction of an
abstraction "why not shift the focus to generous income support and
retraining?" Why not indeed, you sanctimonious, puffed up, apologist for
the myth of free markets. Because it's all about profit and property. And
your liberal, and ignorant I might add, presentation of South Korean
farmers raising cattle on snowy mountainsides, has nothing to do with the
reality of advanced capital's intrusions, or the developing countries'
momentary resistance. For the advanced countries the need for profit
outweights any concern for the security of the private property of the
developing countries' little and not so little bourgeoisies. For the
developing country rulers, the demands of advanced capital threaten to
unleash their darkest hour just before the rest of humanity's dawn (thank
you Shirelles)-- social revolution.
