Effective Palestine Solidarity

I tend to agree with Jose and Lou Pa. I think having the movement
discuss whether suicide bombing is a good idea or not will lead to
divisions and splits. I also think it's kind of a pointless exercise;
the Palestinians are doing it whether or not we "approve" of it. The
first step towards a struggle for self-determination is recognizing
their right to exercise it even when we may find it distasteful.

But it does need to be discussed. Not so the movement will come to a
consensus or agreed-upon point of view--that will never happen--but
simply because we need a strategy in broadening that movement. There
are many people out there who, when confronted with the issue, can't
see past the suicide bombings. How do we approach those people? How do
we *build* this movement without mindlessly condemning or praising
suicide bombing?

The reality is, many times the only way people hear of Palestinians is
when they're blowing up a bus or a cafe. How do we confront that,
explain it, and point out the larger forces at work?

THAT is what the movement should be discussing--not whether suicide
bombing is morally correct or not.
