Walter: Recall and Matt Gonzalez

Recall: I', gald you voted for Camejo, I don't think
that was consistent with voting against the recall.
But half agreement is better than none.

Matt Gonzalez:

He has as of today 900 ctive volunteers, three
headquarters, three phone banking operations and the
Green Party which is also campaigning out of their own
headquarter and with its own literature.  The Left
Party is also heavily involved in the campaign.

A bunch of disinchanted Democrats are coming aboard,
too. He is getting a bunch of endorsements (which he
never pursued) and his support in the Chinese and
Latino community, as well as among African Americans
is growing.

In the last published poll Matt was at 11%, but in
internal polls of the campaign he is now at 16% and he
needs about 4% more to get to the runoff (there are 9
candidates and 5 of them are considered the main
candidates.)

Gonzalez, in the last reported period was second in
fudraising ($90,000) and as of today he already
received a total of $140,000.  He has about $100,000
in the bank, enough to be competitive.

The Green Party is organizing a mobilization of
members from around the state and the country to come
down SF on the last weekend to help out.

He received front page coverage in all the local media
consistently and on Monday he will be attacked in FOX
news (don't miss it) adn that will help, too.

He has about 60-40 chances to to get into the runoff
TODAY, and if he does, he has 60-40 chance of winning
the mayoralty -- polls show that he is the one who can
take on the frontrunner candidate of the Democratic
Party political machine.

Of course, there are plenty of debate about strategy
and tactics but in general, the cmapaign opened up
very important avenues for socialist and working class
ideas.
