Kids struggle in social studies
From: Chris Brady
In all due deference to those concerned with the class struggle in the
classroom, get this one: Did you know all Social Studies teachers in Texas
have the same first name? Coach.
(BTW, I am still bewildered by the phrase "Social Science". I seldom, if
ever, have seen a Social Science teacher wearing a lab coat. Not that it
wouldn't be cool: white, knee-length smock with big patch on the back with
the three, blue swirling electrons in their orbits around the red nucleus,
with "Social Scientist" emblazoned across it with flaming yellow-orange
letters.)

CB: In Detroit, the most militant union right now is the teachers' union,
more than the UAW or Steelworkers,or Teamsters. They just marched on Lansing
( state capital) and reversed a Charter School deal between the Dem Governor
and Mayor, and the Republican Legislature. That's some practice of social
science, in our Marxist sense of historical and social science, theory and
practice.
