Re.: California: ¿a colonial-settler entity?
Brief glance:
There is definitely a racist factor stoked in the current Californian
election's political affiliations. There is also an economic --or
class-- element, which seems to be only hinted at by all contenders,
except for one, that I know of. The expressions of "defensive" racism
by the dominant socioeconomic class, the traditional Anglo bourgeoisie
(nominally "Anglo" since it has waxed more inclusive than 100 years
ago--ah, progress!--including others of Euro-stock), show how the former
becomes a tool of the latter in the attempt to cling to hegemony. At
the same time, and as the necessary antithesis, certain bourgeois
leaders of the traditional Chicano bourgeoisie, Cruz Bustamente por
ejemplo, have erected themselves as defenders of La Raza in a
relationship of allegiance analogous to the client-patron hierarchy.
The way things are shaping up, however, that man-on-a-white-horse
connects to only one, albeit significant portion of the populous.
Another segment appears to feel compromised into voting for him to fend
off a crypto-fascist coup.
