Re: NYT covers Bush's ass, or, my diva tells me to retreat
It is said, "a week is a long time in politics".
What does this mean for a socialist ?
It means, that if cyberMarxists try to fight the bourgeoisie by referring to
the bourgeoisie's inconsistencies and hypocrisies, by comparing what they
say now and what they said the past, for the specific purpose of
demonstrating morally inconsistent behaviour, this cuts no political ice
whatsoever. What Capital requires, is decisions made now in real time, to
safeguard the accumulation process and private property in the future.
A socialist therefore always have to focus on what the bourgeoisie says now,
and on the prospects in the future, relating this to a Marxian analysis of
the current constellation of political forces and the way that tends to move
in the foreseeable future. Never mind the past, it's history as far as the
bourgeoisie is concerned.
The exception to this rule for the bourgeoisie is, where we are able to dig
up real dirt from the past which can be used to oust somebody in the present
or in the future, who stands in the way of Capital. If necessary, a
bulldozer is driven over him. So the bourgeois attitude is, you keep this
dirt archived, just in case you might need it, to sideline or liquidate
somebody in the future.
A leftist can of course think of himself as really "hip" because he is
following the latest news and keeping up with it, but the political art is
to see the future. In this sense, Leon Trotsky, whom I studied once,
remarked that Marxism provided him with insuperable tools to see the future.
I can demonstrate, beyond any doubt, that this is true, even just on the
basis of what I have published on Marxmail and PEN-L, and, as a student of
Education, I could demonstrate without any doubt that this ability is also
related to a specific form of human development of a person.
Having said that, I have decided to withdraw from Marxmail for now, and I
cannot be persuaded otherwise. Call me "Microsoft", if you like. The reason
I give for that, is explained in a popsong by the Eurythmics (not my
favourite Eurythmics song, but you know what I mean):
Annie Lennox Lyrics
Why
How many times do I have to try to tell you
That I'm sorry for the things I've done
But when I start to try to tell you
That's when you have to tell me
Hey...this kind of trouble's only just begun
I tell myself too many times
Why don't you ever learn to keep your big mouth shut
That's why it hurts so bad to hear the words
That keep on falling from your mouth
Falling from your mouth
Falling from your mouth
Tell me...
Why
Why
I may be mad
I may be blind
I may be viciously unkind
But I can still read what you're thinking
And I've heard it said too many times
That you'd be better off
Besides...
Why can't you see this boat is sinking
(This boat is sinking this boat is sinking)
Let's go down to the water's edge
And we can cast away those doubts
Some things are better left unsaid
But they still turn me inside out
Turning inside out turning inside out
Tell me...
Why
Tell me...
Why
This is the book I never read
These are the words I never said
This is the path I'll never tread
These are the dreams I'll dream instead
This is the joy that's seldom spread
These are the tears...
The tears we shed
This is the fear
This is the dread
These are the contents of my head
And these are the years that we have spent
And this is what they represent
And this is how I feel
Do you know how I feel?
'Cause I don't think you know how I feel
I don't think you know what I feel
I don't think you know what I feel
You don't know what I feel
Thank you for your attention in this matter.
