Subject: Class Conflict in the US Civil War

I think comrade JF hits it on the head-- the revolution was about unleashing
Northern capitalism, free soil white farming, not about creating a market in
free labor in the South. To accomplish this, slavery had to be destroyed.
To preserve the private property of the above, the power of the former slave
holders was reconstituted.

A yeoman farming was unleashed, that of the white farmers, a free market in
free labor was enshrined as the law of the land, a law like all others to be
enforced and ignored depending on the status, the property, of the
participants.
