Melvin has hit on some critical points in this discussion. My apparent
"Brennerism" doesn't prevent me from seeing the important analysis presented
here-- that there is no need for a "bourgeois revolution" in the US; that
the Civil War represents a social revolution, as such, destroying the
slave-holding property; that the "retreat" of Reconstruction is not so much
a retreat as it is a defeat, a destruction, of the class "equity" of the
program of Reconstruction; that while black labor has been the pivot of the
development of capitalism, there is no separate black working class in the
US-- [but there are black workers with a different historical development
than white workers ].
