Re: Writing off the bourgeoisie



Right Lou, I didn't make myself clear enough. I believe the retreat from
Reconstruction is part of a world reaction that includes the destruction of
the Paris Commune, the "defeat" or suspension of the first Cuban Revolution
(10years war).

I think the bourgeoisie feared above all else the prospects of workers
movement and envisioned such a threat being magnified by further destruction
of Southern property.

In short, the retreat from Reconstruction is indicative of the inability of
the bourgeoisie to complete their own "revolution," an inability which
foreshadows the Spanish-American War, in which the US replaced Spain not
only, but inherently, to combat revolution, an inability that foreshadows
the necessity for the proletarian nature of the Russian Revolution.

I know, I know, we need a lot more detail to track this transition. I
agree.
