Actually, why don't you do a search for region hack and the make and
model of your DVD player. Many can be hacked to be made region and
macromedia free by entering a key combination on the remote control,
typically. 

The cheap ones especially, because they use computer DVD drives which
are cheaper and are essentially very primitive DOS-type boxes customized
to a specific application with hardware audio and video decompression
circuits. Most can be set up to output PAL or NTSC independent of the
region, I believe -- look in the documentation.

The reason for this is that of course DVD manufacturers don't want to
have several different products + permutations, it drives up costs, so
crippling the player is usually done with different settings to one
basic player, and these can be overridden.

If your DVD drive is in the computer, I believe MOST players for windoze
just use a registry key for the region thing. Linux boxes don't have
this limitation, I think the DVD player programs for Linux are free
software (free in many senses of the word, including free of regional
nonsense).
