RE: emancipation and the american revolution
Jeez...this thread is a real case of reinventing the wheel.
Yeah, George III and his Tory minions and Hessian mercenaries said that
they would emancipate slaves. And America's George III (George
W.--George Washington and George Bush, Sr.) said we were emancipating
the Iraqis. The use of a term like "critical support" isn't even a good
joke unless we take governments at their word. In fact, Aptheker
addressed this at one point and talked about several thousand slaves who
did run away to British lines--where most were clapped in irons and
resold in the West Indies.
I tend to view with suspicion any "Marxism" that looks with favor on any
EMPIRE against any of their COLONIAL PEOPLES.
Let me add that the apparently irresistible impulse of radicals to piss
on the graves of dead radicals is hardly one of the most endearing
traits of the Left...especially in the United States where the act
requires standing in a long line and hobnobbing with the liberals,
reactionaries and others who've never missed an opportunity to disparage
the very idea of an American Revolution.
Solidarity!
Mark L.
