What's Real (and, perhaps, what's not?)

I receive Marxmail in digest form, and I usually go
over about 8-10 "issues" at a time, for reasons of
personal scheduling. This by way of explaining that I
just finished perusing the last 10 or so issues of the
digest. I didn't count, but I'm guessing something
like 50% of the space was taken up by the
"point-counter-point" "discussion" about the SWP.

Now, I should explain (as many of you probably already
know), I "grew up" in the SWP of the '50s (parents),
and became a member, first of the YSA (64), and SWP
(67). I resigned in 88, to become an active supporter,
then resigned as an active supporter in, I think '89.
So I guess that "qualifies" me as one of the
longer-affiliated SWPers on the list. I mention this
only by way of explanation that I, too, share an
interest in the present state of the organization that
I (and my "family of origin") spent so much of my life
in.

That said, I find it truly amazing that so much fuss
is made over this issue, when something so much MORE
IMPORTANT to the working class is going on, which
seems to elicit not much interest on the list. I refer
to the current overthrow of the largest airline
workers union (IAM) by an upstart, independent
(non-AFL) "craft" union. Regardless of one's views on
this development, there's no denying that this is an
important process going on, and one that those
interested in the class struggle in the US really
"should" be more interested in than seems to be the
case here.

Of course, my view is that the SWP is now an
irrelevant sect, completely devoid of any present or
future significance to what is to come of the class
struggle in the US. That may explain why I find such
debates as the one with Cde. Laura so tedius.
