Backchat from Woody

Hi Les,

didnt get to answer this one before i left for vacation. am slowly catching
up w/ old emails.

I have got to go yet, I feel pretty stuffed, that sawdusty feeling in the
head. But where ? Just now it is so hot here, one doesn't feel like
organising much. Plus, I felt so angry lately, I start to feel like an
Irishman, and I am not even Irish. It is not a good thing, when it is
summery and hot, time to relax, calm down. All in all it suggests that I
should stay off the Internet for a bit, it is easy to get addicted, and get
brainwaves in the wrong places.

amen ... it continually amazes me how often little effort it put into making
a theory (with all its mountainous climb over data, hypothesis, false peaks,
etc) appealing to the eye and ear so to speak.

That should really be read "A-men". You should check out the swimming pool,
that would give you some new inspirations. I have just been. I have been
thinking a lot lately about style, but I haven't fully resolved it yet.
Content and form are both important.

Amazing !

"there is a clasification scheme for black-hole types based on E's general
theory of relativity and solutions to his "field
equations".

Yes, I have come across that already in the past, that is what I was
referring to. But in the field of astrophysics I am only a fairly
inexperienced amateur, you know. It is just that, in all these discussions
about the "scientificity" of social science, I sometimes like to refer to
astrophysics and astronomy, the reason being, that there problems are posed
as regards scientific method which are logically similar to problems in
social science, for example, criteria for testability, confirmation,
verification and falsifiability, how to handle a situation with many
unknowns with a bold hypothesis, and so on. It involves a considerable
amount of speculative thought often.
