Re: Intellectuals & Cuba: spies and snitches

>What we have here is conspiracy theory substituting for serious social
analysis. There is nothing regarding the corruption, decadence and
oppression of Stalinist rule. There is nothing on the role (or passive lack
thereof) played by the Soviet and East European working class. There is nothing
about the absence of socialist democracy. There is nothing even regarding the
U.S. and NATO's bankrupting the Soviet economy through the four-decades-long
arms and space race.

No, the entire socio-economic evolution of these countries over the past 15
years is chalked up to the scheming of a ragtag bunch of dissidents fostered
and funded by Western capitalists and the U.S. State Department-and, of course,
the perfidious support of our "otherwise progressive" Western intellectuals.

To put it bluntly, this is precisely the kind of hysterical response that
infected millions of Communist Party members and their intellectual fellow
travelers in the West when confronted with any opposition to or criticism of
Soviet
Stalinism in the 1930s. <

Spying on behave of a foreign power is a criminal offense in all countries.
Not to understand this is no theoretical error but a fundamental statement of
one politics.

1. A group of people in country "Apple" is convicted of spying on behalf of
country "Bear."
2. Then a sector of people from the most privilege strata of the population
in country "Bear" - alongside side of and in unison with the government of
country "Bear," condemn the government of country "Apple" for arresting and
sentencing the spies to jail who were spying for and on behalf of country
"Bear."
3. Throughout the world a political alignment appears composed of people who
support the condemnation of country "Apple" by various government officials of
country "Bear."
4. People calling themselves all kinds of socialist - without quotes, scream
that country "Apple" is not democratic enough and should have opened the trial
of the spies for all citizens of country "Bear" and other governments that
support country "Bear." To argue their love for the democratic process the
socialist scream Stalin and Stalinist oppression.
5. I start smiling because anyone stupid enough to engage in spying and is
not in the employ of state agencies has got to be the stupidest mutherfucker on
earth, because if you are caught you have no levers of negotiations to win
your freedom.

Real world politics and maneuver is a complex field that requires political
astuteness, thinking in several dimensions, an understanding of history and
mastering the art of engagement because all the decisions the individual makes
cast them in alignment with various political forces and trends.

Comrades, it is pretty easy to understand a physical reaction resulting from
a physical attack. This is so because our power of observation perceives this
action-reaction as the most elementary form of motion. The question become
more complex in the class and political struggle, in which a particular
political
act - action, may not have any direct result - reaction manifest, until many
years later.

Mr. Boyd political motion - expressed in his analysis, aligns him with the
politically dominant sector of my imperial bourgeoisie in real time and cast him
as a defender of peoples who question and feel it was wrong for the
government of country "Apple" to arrest people spying for country "Bear."

Screaming democracy, socialist democracy, intellectual integrity and "look
out Stalin and the Stalinist are coming" may in fact fool the novice, but the
facts of political motion and alignment speak for itself. The trade union hacks
may more political skill than that shown by Mr. Boyd genuflecting and
obviously blocking with the imperialist bourgeoisie.

Generally speaking when the spokespersons from the privilege strata of the
intelligencia start screaming about the moral imperative of socialism, socialist
democracy, Stalinism and the Stalinist system, freedom means free to think, I
understand I am dealing with a rat-fink stool pigeon, an imperialist bandit
or an extremely naive person who has not a clue about the real world of
politics.

The ratfink stool pigeon understands he is defending spying on behalf of my
imperial bourgeoisie and the naive person believes he is defending freedom of
thought and ends up being arrested along with the ratfink for spying.

I never cease to be amazed at the liberty the intelligencia in the most
imperial of countries take in their "opinion" about countries their own
government
oppresses. When I was in High School several decades ago we use to say,
"snitches get stitches." This was just a way of saying, be careful about what
you
say and do and don't get caught up in something you know nothing about. There
are times when the appropriate thing to do is to "shut-up and not get caught
up."

At any rate do not get caught up in spying for a foreign government and
defending spying and taking money and equipment from foreign governments. If you
cannot read political motion your only safety is fighting for the victory of the
workers in their current demands. Hiding behind sweet statements of
"Socialism has always been about democracy, human rights and internationalism,
" will
not keep your bacon out of the skillet if you are sitting up with a group of
spies and don't know it. :-)
