RE: The Iraqi people: undefeated

>>Because the war was so narrowly focused on Hussein's government in
Baghdad, a large part of the Iraqi population does not feel as if it was
defeated, said retired Army Col. Scott R. Feil. "As I heard one Iraqi
say, the Americans defeated Saddam, but not the Iraqi people, so the
psychology of the loser is not present," he said.<<

I think what we need to focus on are the *political* conclusions for the
American (and British, etc.) left.

The war is not over. It has barely *begun.* We've got to rethink through
our tactics, propaganda and agitation from the angle of the opposing the
"post-war" war.

The insurrectionary rising in one of the southern towns with the
resulting liquidation of the (small) occupying British force is
symptomatic. Saddam's governmental apparatus may have been destroyed,
but the Iraqi nation has not been defeated. It lives, resists, and
fights.

I think the July 4 demo in Philly is an obvious immediate organizing
focus. Beyond that, the by now traditional Hiroshima-Nagasaki events
(Aug 6-9) should provide another focus.
