Of wine and women
Today's NYT World Business section has an interesting article
on the emerging "success" of a winery in India. The story is
positioned below a picture of workers, all women, sorting grapes
at the vineyard.
The NYT attributes the vinter's, male of course, success
to the "globalization" of the Indian economy and the
elimination of "red tape," which we all know translates as
unimpeded access to cheap labor without the impediments of
regulations, taxation, of any other aspect of 'social
reproduction.'
In all of the "emerging markets," like the emerged ones,
in China, the Philippines, Mexico, Russia, the US
the labor of women, underpaid, unprotectected, is the key
to the once and future success.
