Poll backs force against Iran over nukes
Did they also ask in the poll such basic question as:
1) Can you explain the geographic location of Iran ?
2) What is the capital city of Iran ?
3) Are you aware of the real history of American intervention in Iran
over the years ?
4) What kind of political system does Iran have, and can you name its
main politicians ?
5) What is the foreign policy of Iran ?
6) What evidence is there of malicious or agressive intent by the
Iranian government towards any other countries ?
7) Are there any legal grounds for an American intervention in Iran ?
8) Who would make lots of profits from regime change and killing
Iranians ?
9) Do you feel mass murder, torture and barbarism is always justified
to protect the lifestyles of the wealthy in America, or only sometimes
?
10) Why do you think that Iranians are incompetent to solve their own
political problems in their own country ?
11) How do you get your information about Iran, who produces that
information, and can you believe them ?
12) Are you, or any relative of yours, prepared to die to make more
profits for American corporations in Iran ?
13) Suppose Iran and a coalition of other countries attacked the
United States for gross violations of human rights and democratic
rights, who would you support ?
14) If, in the event of such an attack, you opted to assist the
defence of the USA, on what grounds would you do so ?
15) Given those grounds, do you think Iranians have the same rights to
defend the sovereignity of their country ?
16) If not, why not ?
17) What does democracy mean ?
18) Does democracy exist in the United States ?
I suspect that a majority of Americans could not even answer these
questions.
One thing which makes attitudinal surveys so tricky is that they do
not probe the real knowledge, characteristics or behaviours of
respondents. In addition, the questions may be structured completely
within the terms of the official debate, to verify the extent of
endorsement of a policy. On this basis, almost any public opinion can
be fabricated.
