Forwarded from Anthony (antiwar movement)
I think everyone on this list in the USA should get out and work to build
ANSWER's September 27 "Global Day of Protest against Occupation and
Empire". I want to thank Yoshie, Lou, and others for keeping the list
updated on UFPJ, and ask ANSWER supporters to post more info (I may have
missed somethings).
Now that the initial proimperialist 'victory' euphoria has settled down -
and anti-war demoralization is beginning to give way to thinking about a
long war/occupation, and a longer term antiwar/occupation movement the time
is right to begin to again mobilize large demonstrations. ANSWER's
mobilization seems - despite it's overtly anti-imperialist slogan - to be
much more directed to bring out large numbers in demonstrations than UFJP's
grab bag of activity strategy.
I think the latest news from Iraq - and the fact that the New York Times
and Washington Post are reporting some of it, is very good news for our
side - I am referring specifically to the reports of continuing military
actions against the US occupation of Iraq, continuing US casualties,
falling US military morale in Iraq, and rising anger within Iraq against
the USA. All in all this fits the characterization made by many of us of
the likely course of this war.
No weapons have been found.
Despite Bush's continued high popularity ratings, a lot of people in the
USA and UK must be privately thinking they were tricked and used. And if
they are thinking that, many will start to ask why.
The antiwar movement can begin to tap that sentiment now, as it begins to rise.
The focus should be on building large demos against occupation. That's why
I support ANSWER's September 27 mobilization.
All the best, Anthony
