migrating the list to new platform
i remember louis mentioning to me that the list might move to a "Mailman"
platform after relocation to utah. i am curious as to what that system is
like. and since we're sort of on the topic, i'm wondering if i may be so
bold as to suggest a web forum/message board format instead or in
conjunction? although the online archives generally do an acceptable job
of keeping threads together, it's not always a guarantee, and it can often
be a chore if not sometimes impossible to follow a thread in its
entirety. this is even harder when going through my actual email archives,
as i can arrange by subject, author, date, etc, but since the subject line
often changes within a thread, as such email clients cannot arrange things
that way very easily if at all.
i have little clue as to whether this is actually practical or feasible
however. some may feel that the web board format is not as accessible for
some reason perhaps? i can only think of those who still rely on
unix-style console email, but maybe folks can clue me into who else might
be affected? perhaps a newsgroup-style server, then? the other issue
would probably be bandwidth, i assume. putting things on a web-board might
be impractical for that reason alone, but i'd like to know definitively
from more knowledgeable comrades if such a limitation truly is that
prohibitive.
i'm just putting the suggestion on the table cuz i got to thinking about it
when trying to navigate some of the longer threads here of late. lots of
valuable and informative dialogue and debate, i just feel it's a pity that
it isn't easier to access the full context of conversations that go on here.
regards,
x. yuan
