I heard on NOW with Bill MOyers last night that last week the United
States guaranteed $9 billion in loans for Israel --on top of the $3
billion it gets in direct military aid.  The programme argued that funds
from the USA to Israel are dumped into the pot and become essentially
fungible, therefore the USA is financing the "settlements" in the
occupied territories.  The mayor of Ariel, deep in the occupied
territories, belligerantly and arrogantly retorted under questioning:
"So what!"
The transportation minister took the same attitude but added the old
chestnut:
"God gave Jews these lands."
I forget whether it was him or the mayor, but one of them stated the
outstanding
"fact" that no other nation in the world can justify its existence by
the word of God.
This seems to be good enough for the Christian Zionists who have joined
the lebensraumers on the West Bank.  An interview with one such Texan,
owner of a minigolf/hamburger stand, demonstrated the religious
convictions of such individuals and their utter lack of empathy for the
Palestinians.  It was like a clinical interview with profoundly
schizophrenic patients in a mental hospital.
