Al-Jazeera.net. 30 May 2003, 20:43 GMT.

Al-Jazeera's correspondent in Baghdad reports from
eyewitnesses that an American military airplane was
about to land at Baghdad airport but came under fire
from two directions. It was therefore compelled to
abort its landing and to fly off to an undisclosed
alternate location. The correspondent also reports
that the sound of three powerful explosions could be
heard in the center of Baghdad. No details are yet
known about the blasts.

Today Baghdad witnessed an extensive expansion of
American force deployments in the area of a number of
mosques in the Iraqi capital and other cities. Their
aim is to forestall any gatherings of those opposed to
the American presence. Iraqis prayed Friday
congregational prayer in Baghdad without friction with
the American forces. These security forces were
particularly concentrated around the Mosque of Abu
Hanifah an-Nu'man in al-A'zamiyah, a district in the
Iraqi capital. During his Friday sermon, the imam of
that mosque denounced the Americans as being
responsible for the deterioration of security and
called on them to hasten to provide it.

Intense battles in the city of Baghdad and Baghdad
Airport between Iraqi Resistance Forces and American
Occupation Forces.

"h Three big columns of smoke are rising from the city
of Baghdad.
"h American forces are fleeing to the outskirts of
Baghdad.
"h The sound of increasingly intense gunfire can be
heard as we approach the center of the city.
"h At the airport: Iraqis are reporting that there was
an attack at the airport carried out by two Iraqi
military Jeeps that assaulted the gate of the airport
with shells and intense gunfire. They destroyed the
obstacle and then were able quickly to enter the
airport to confront an airplane that was intending to
land, on which it is believed were a number of high
ranking leaders of Iraqi dissident organizations. The
attackers opened intense gunfire upon the aircraft,
forcing it to flee blindly and recklessly.
