I understand your point, James.
And well-taken, too, I might add.

However, there is something from literary criticism called intentional
fallacy that we can use to see that there are more interpretations of
the world, and the humour, comedie noire, buffoonery, etc., in it, than
may have been intended by the players.
I mean, say you've had a couple of pints, and are hanging with a rowdy
bunch of our ilk, and on the tube comes the silly visage of that twit W.
We all hate the ponce, granted, but we're in high spirits [sic] and
begin mimicking his mamerisms and making fun of his repeated invocations
of the holy mission of imperialists to bring democracy to the unwashed
masses of the whirled. Egads, man! Laugh, or weep, James me lad, but
tomorrow get down to work again recharged. Even Karl and Fred had their
moments of wit and levity.
