Featured this week: Victims of oppression and war -- Australia abandons
refugees

As a signatory to the refugee convention, the Australian government must
not return asylum seekers to their countries if they are in danger of
torture, persecution or death. However, Canberra is persistently in
breach of its obligations -- and is unapologetic about it. On April 14,
the immigration minister declared: "Australia has no obligation to take
into account the safety of the country, when it comes to returning
refugees."
