FYI: Don't Think It's All Over
The difference with Somalia and Afghanistan is the oil. That's why the U.S.
wants Iraq tightly under U.S. military control (Garner).
Also I agree with both Lou P.'s scenarios 2 AND 3. The strategy has been
used against other revolutions -- create chaos and insecurity as a way of
creating dependency on the new rulers and create fear and anxiety as a way
of atomizing the population. In the end, they hope, the people will say
"TINA," in Thatcher's words. In this case, they also want a pliant puppet
bourgeoisie that has no connection to Saddam and the Baathists, no
indigenous base at all, praetorian guards, sort of a "colonial settler
bourgeoisie," if you will.
