3 items from Rula Amin's CNN-report re looting
1. she showed how Iraqi people organized to recollect the looted
goods and registering every item to be returned to the original
owner; she showed one place which looked like a private place and a
mosque where a Mullah was the person registering the goods being
returned;
2. she showed a group of people where at least one complained that
the US forces are encouraging the looting;
3. she showed a group of people who had organized a vigilante
group to protect their neighborhood against looting, and who
complained that the US soldiers forced them at gunpoint to give up
their weapons.
So far the items from Rula Amin.
As to point three, this is in contradiction to the US claims that
they come as "liberators" and not as occupiers, and that -- Foreign
Minister Powell repeated that today -- they would not want to impose
a government to the Iraqi people.
Obviously they want to prevent the Iraqis to organize themselves.
This is in sharp contrast to the "Free Iraqi Forces" of notorious
Ahmed Chalabi which are allowed to operate as an organized and armed
forces in Iraq. And they are probably not only allowed to do that,
but also being helped, e.g. with transportation.
