Coping
It's Friday night here and the football is about to come one and I have got
the beer cooling. I have decided to abandon all news bulletins and avoid
like the plague the Murdoch press.
I am boycotting actuality especially the actuality of imperialism for the
next few weeks.
I am trying to be like the average Australian - ignorant, uniformed and
interested only in sport.
It seems to work for them. Why not me?
Of course the truth is that I do hear the odd snatched headline and do
occasionally catch a glimpse of what Murdoch wants me to think. Worse I
caught a taxi yesterday and heard Howard talking to a talk back radio host
saying that he was overjoyed at the scenes in Baghdad. It made it all
worth while, it seems. All the murder and all the slaughter.
I cannot expressed how sickened I am by the sound of Howard's voice. But I
seem to be in a minority here. So we are probably looking at a post-war
election in Australia, which Howard would win with a huge majority.
Even such is life...
regards
Gary
