Re: iraqwar.ru: Saddam transfers all power to Iran and Syria

I agree with Elisha here. If the war was going to spread through some
agreement between Saddam and Iran and Syria, why did why didn't the latter
nations attack the Americans while the war was going on?

Obviously S. & I. wanted the war to be as long and as costly for the
Americans as possible. That is where they think their hope lies. As for
the Shia in the South it was certainly not in Iran's interests that the
Shi'ites gave the Anglo-Americans an easy ride, with or without the alleged
exchange of nuclear bombs.

Meantime resistance in Baghdad could continue for some time. Certainly I
cannot see why it would fall any quicker than Basra. But one way or
another American military might is prevailing at this stage. They still
though have to wheel Chalabi on stage. I am inclined to think that he will
be an even less impressive act than Karzai, but of course he will be as
well dressed and tarted up by the PR folk they will hire.

Re some of the exchanges on the list. I think we are all bitter and sad
about the course of events. That is emerging in frustration and we are
biting at one another. Really I think we could cool it a bit.

regards

Gary
