better them than me!
I saw this headline in the NYTimes:
While Mourning Dead, Public Seems to Tolerate War's
http://www.nytimes.com/2003/04/08/international/worldspecial/08CASU.html?thToll
and I thought at first it meant Yanquis tolerate the death toll of
Iraqis.
then i realized it's the same anyway:
as long as it's not me or near me --so what?
the atomization of society by the continuation of bourgeois culture and
its commodification drive is a win-win game for capitalism.
empathy is vaporized.
no prejudice
because
the "other" has transcended existence in the public mind.
maybe if those fotos of the human butcher shop that Baghdad and Basra
have become might shake some awake.
but they are in such bad taste.
they are actually offensive.
we should be, too.
but wisely.
