Re: Canada
Canada IS hockey. We listen to our red-necked red-plaid-jacketed pundit,
Don Cherry, when he talks hockey -- and agree or disagree vehemently. When
he argued support of our "brothers", our "family" in their wars, the CBC was
deluged with protests. We listen to Cherry, in part, because hockey is our
"time out", our breathing space from the war. We do NOT listen to him to
hear bigoted statements about those who do not support the war. Unlike NBC,
the CBC does not fire those who disagree with a public stance taken by the
network; Cherry, however, was told not to repeat that kind of action. Our
PM, Jean Cretien, is walking the same line all liberal prime ministers have
done in our history: act as a sovereign nation (pun intended), but do not
intentionally offend. There are problems with that attitude for sure, but
it is, at present, the wish of the Canadian public that *that* should be our
stance. Don Cherry notwithstanding, the rural areas of Canada are not all
red necked.

Re: Canada.
60-40 split against war.
Almost unanimous against in Quebec.
Montreal fans booed US anthem at hockey game,
but baseball put up with it at Blue Jays -Yankees game
and gave limp voice to seventh inning stretch "God bless Hamerica"...
Yankees won game so fans will boo next time.
