Long ago at Essex University I went to a talk by the Irish Revolutionary
Gerry Lawless, and he said  (Specifically in reference to the British
Liberal Govt's response to the Curragh Mutiny - "Liberals always cave in
before a threat from the armed right and that is why I am not a liberal.'
The British Officer class refused to march against Ulster Unionists, and
the Liberal Establishment folded.

Similarly If there is one thing this war has proved it is the limits of
liberals. Once more the Far Right is taking the agenda and they are backing
down.
