Because it is another tool to use in our creation of a space for the
antiwar movement here in the US. It may embolden those who place some
truck in the word of an elected representative. That is possibly a
first step in their politicization outside of the quagmire of
representative democracy. I see several people in the Chicago antiwar
community who have come along that path.
Also, it is in response to a right-wing attack and does well in
discrediting the pundit-of-the-week. Without the shrinking space of
public discourse which this statement defends, anti-war liberals, let
alone Marxists, would be rendered voiceless.
