Re: Civility, Confrontation, and Springtime for Spartacists..
And you too Comrade, have a nice day, but not too nice.... I don't read the
SLP, Sparts, or SWP, and I think that is where you have gone wrong,
confusing their approaches with any program, maximum, transition, or
minimal.
I did not suggest we apply the maximum program at all times. I suggest we
find a transition from the current program as the "progressive bourgeoisie"
(an oxymoron if there ever was one) attempts to circumscribe the movement
into a nicely contained strategic hamlet of patriotic, civil, recuperative,
and oh so safe, discourse, fit for the letters to the editor page of the
NYT.
The issues raised are serious issues, ones that have confronted every
anti-war protest movement in the US, and have yet to be successfully
resolved. If you have a resolution, I'm all ears. If you don't, I
understand, but we shouldn't dismiss the questions as "maximalist"
"Spartacist," etc.
I know it's not easy to use something other than ideological phrases when
confronted by the messiness of real life, but we all have to try and get
over the baggage of the past, like call people ultra-lefts, Mensheviks, etc.
Wrapping a social movement in the American flag is going to get us nowhere.
