 On the contrary, people can fight for some time on one meal a day,
especially MRE's that contain substantial amounts of fat.  Keep 'em
hydrated, and the ketosis won't set in for a couple of weeks.

During Ranger School, one meal a day in the field is the standard.

Militaries from all over the world have functioned for long periods of
time on less caloric intake than one MRE a day.
