London & images of war

I disagreed with what someone hinted at earlier on the list - that we
should want the war to be "over quickly" for humanitarian reasons. I
think
this is very slippery ground as it is the same argument that Rumsfeld
and
co. paint their "shock and awe" and "effects-based war-fare" as
humanitarian - because it is designed to destroy resistance very
quickly.

I disagree with that notion also. Even (Aust) Greens Senator Bob Brown
has been led by journalists to say similar -- albeit also reiterating
that we should never have gotten into this war. But the Greens are
still (to the best of my knowledge) calling for troop withdrawal --
unlike the craven ALP shadow cabinet.

The reason I disagree with that idea, anyway, is that a victory for
the Bushfeld Gang now would only encourage them. And who would be
invaded next? Colombia? Mindanao? Iran? France? (joke...)

We still have to argue against the pessimism of Bob Brown et al -- we
want the coalition forces defeated, preferably by the mass struggle of
the workers at home, but if not then by Iraqi forces or some
combination of the two.

And that's my 2 cents (2 emails) for the day.
