Timorese Chickens ?
On the Tom O'Lincoln's holier than thou chicken theory
1. I didn't see one million Australians demonstrating AGAINST
intervention in East Timor...nor did I see folk like Tom organising a mass
movement to oppose the intervention.
2. I wonder if Tom also would oppose on similar grounds the Vietnamese
intervention in Cambodia to stop the Khmer Rouge massacres.
3. I wonder if Tom objects to facts getting in the way of a good put
down: ie: did the East Timorese intervention prevent the masive slaughter of
thousands more East Timorese or didn't it?
4. I gather that Tom signs on as a historical materialist so he would
know that historical process does not coincide with the views of
individuals -- whether they be Ramos Horta or Tom O'Lincoln -- nor their
interpretation.-- which in this case, albeit from very different
perspectives, share the same or similar analysis: the message delivered by
the Timor intervention is that imperialism can be progressive. Are they both
right? And do millions of people worldwide -- in the wake of the recent
antiwar mobilisations-- agree with that interpretation and now believe that
imperialism is a progressive force?
