Being very close to Freedom Road, with a number of close friends there (not
the Fight Back group), I'm sure they'd claim Marxism-Leninism too, but not
in any ecumenical sense. I think they were accused of revisionism during
the split, but don't quote me on that.
I'm with Lou Paulsen in seeing them as non-sectarian, hard workers. Strong
emphasis on practice of mass line (a Maoist idiom there), and they have the
deep roots in local Black labor and education politics to prove it.
Hereabouts, it is over half African American, and they see US racism as a
national question (as do I), which is where they really differentiate
themselves. They seem to be reaching out as part of a left refoundation
(in this antiwar period, left pole) emphasis to Solidarity, SP, CPUSA, and
"anti-capitalist" youth. Quite a bit of participation in "War Times" and
UFPJ. Antiracist work is a particular strength. Another theme there is
the strategic priority given to the US Sunbelt (Black Belt South combined
with Chicano Southwest). Very close relationship with Black Workers
League, and in North Carolina with Black Workers for Justice.
I like them because they let me run a column on their web site, and because
they never neglect to have plenty of food at meetings and events. (-:
Members I know are diverse and down-to-earth.
