This follows a protest a little while ago of 200,000 in Damascus, 60,000 in
Morocco, and one of tens of thousands in Lebanon. The Bush-Powell team may
believe that all this will quiet down precipitously once Baghdad has been
pulverized by cruise missiles and a new era of "demoracy" and "free markets"
begins under U.S. military rule, but as for me, I think they better go back
to smoking cigarettes.

AP. 26 February 2003. Half a million people take part in anti-war
protest in Khartoum.
KHARTOUM -- More than half a million people marched through the Sudanese
capital Wednesday in protest at America's moves toward war with Iraq.
"Bush is War and War is Bush!" chanted the demonstrators, who included
women carrying babies and representatives of most political parties and
professional associations.
Thousands of riot police escorted the marchers as they headed to the
United Nations' office in Khartoum where they handed in an open letter
to Secretary-General Kofi Annan).
The letter urged him to try to stop the looming war, adding he would
"bear the curse of history" if he follows the path of the "tripartite
axis of evil: America, Britain and Satan."
One of the organizers of the demonstration, Fatahi Khalil, the head of
the Sudanese Popular Organization, told The Associated Press that the
march had brought together "virtually every political party, trade
union, and sector."
The protesters also called for boycotts of American and Israeli
products, burned U.S. flags and carried pictures of Iraqi President
Saddam Hussein.
It was the second mass demonstration against a possible invasion of Iraq
in two months. At the end of January, some 10,000 protesters marched
toward the U.S. Embassy but were held back by police.
