Ananova. 20 February 2003. Anti-war protesters breach RAF base security.

OXFORDSHIRE -- Anti-war activists who bound themselves together on the
runway of RAF Brize Norton have been removed from the Oxfordshire
airbase by military police.

The protest came as 360 British troops were due to be flown out from the
base to join the UK contingent in the Gulf region.

The activists locked their arms together in metal cylinders and lay at
the junction of two runways in a bid to stop any jets from taking off.

They had managed to enter the airbase by breaching the main security
perimeter fence.

A spokesman for The Oxford Pledge of Resistance group said: "Almost two
million people marched through London last weekend but still we are
gearing up for this insane war. The Government has made it clear it
isn't going to stop the war."

"Now it comes down to the people of Britain. We're calling on everyone
opposed to this war to get up and act to prevent it. The lives of
countless innocent Iraqis depend on our action.

"War is not the answer. We cannot bomb our way to peace. The UK has no
place supporting this mindless conflict. If those elected to represent
us won't do their job, we will have to do it ourselves."
