The book, which was referred to below, was jointly written by Anwar
Shaikh and myself (Ahmet Tonak) and our estimates go through 1989 --we
may update them, but currently they do not cover the late 90's. The
relevant part of the book is our discussion of Perlo's earlier
book-length study (1974), where his estimates were sectoral
(manufacturing), not for the entire economy. Our book is available
through Amazon's site (where they some copied pages from the book; the
link is below) and you may read the first chapter in my web site.

I think Anwar Shaikh, a couple of years ago, produced a book in which he
goes through the figures in the United States today (or, at least, late 1990s).
I must try to find it some time.
Perlo's study would sure be interesting. It helps to have empirical
corroboration for what we might expect in terms of long-term trends.
Cheers,

Frequently the only possible answer is a critique of the
question and the only solution is to negate the question.
