Here here. Furthermore, we can't possibly know what will happen based on
the near-term outcome of this struggle. We can't know what it will look
like. How variables will break. But we should know that what is always a
necessary ingredient in any major historical conjuncture is destabilization
of some kind. Hopefully that will be a destabilization that weakens
backward forces and strengthens progressive ones, and here is where the
critical intervention of the left can make a difference. The political
destruction of the Bush administration must be the immediate goal of the
left pole of the anitwar movement. And not just to avoid the kind of
nuclear, et al, dangers these mad hatters can bring with them in their
wakes. These are fascists, the real thing, not the kind that leftist
Chicken Little's have ranted on for decades. They want to escalate their
wars. What we have to recognize is that we are under attack now, too. The
good thing is that it is truly international. That's why so much depends
on us here in the belly of the beast. Our sloganeering at broad rallies
has been "No to war, No to sanctions, No to repression." Seems to work,
and its keeping the internal pressure leftward.
