United for Peace and Justice coalition endorses Jan. 18 protests

Please share as widely as possible.
------------------------------------------------
At a recent meeting of United For Peace and Justice (please note new name)
we endorsed the call for the anti-war protests in Washington, DC and San
Francisco on Saturday, Jan. 18th. Organized by International ANSWER, these
demonstrations will take place at a critical time. We encourage everyone to
join these protests and do whatever you can to make them as successful as
possible. Now is the time for all of us to stand united in opposing the
drive toward war against Iraq.

The January 18th mobilization will take place during the Week of Resistance
called for by United For Peace and Justice. Throughout the country people
will be celebrating the Martin Luther King holiday. We encourage anti-war
activists to build on the legacy of the life and work of Dr. King by
organizing local events and activities that bring a wide range of people
together in a common call for peace and for social & economic justice. In
addition, several events will be taking place in Washington, DC over the
holiday weekend: a day of women's actions on Friday, Jan. 17th; a
non-violent civil disobedience protest on Sunday, Jan. 19th; a student/youth
protest on that same day; and an important training and organizing
conference convened by Black Voices for Peace on Monday, Jan. 20th. For more
information about the Week of Resistance and the DC actions visit our web
site: www.unitedforpeace.org.

In this next week United For Peace and Justice will do all we can to
encourage people to participate in the Jan. 18th anti-war protests in
Washington and San Francisco....and we hope you will do the same!
